In Madurai some six vans are plying carrying the banner of Sourashtra Script Alphabets chart so that people will come to know the existence of Script for Sourashtra Language spoken in Tamil Nadu.

Parivarthit Devanagari Script !
A group of people wanted to use Devanagari Script for Sourashtra Language.
But the symbols are not available for the peculiar sounds in Sourashtra Language.
So they approached Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore and evolved
The Parivarthit Devanagari Script [modified form of Devanagari Script].
But while apprising the CIIL authorities, they have not informed properly the peculiar sounds available in Sourashtra Language, with the result the newly evolved Parivarthit Devanagari Script is still deficient of two symbols viz. half yakaram and nasal marker.
Sourashtra Language has got its own script. Printed books in Sourashtra script are available from 1880.
Unaware of these things, the Devanagari group conducted a meeting of Script proclamation on 8.8.2009
at Uthamapandiankulam, Palayamkottai where in it was stated that the Language will be made a written language (!) with the use of Parivarthit Devanagari Script.
When already hundreds of books are available in Sourashtra language, it is ridiculous to say that all along this language remained as a spoken language.
It is to be pointed out here that the World famous Great Works ‘Srimad Bhagavath Githa’ and ‘Tirukkural’ have been translated into Sourashtra Language.
Sahitya Akademi has honoured two Sourashtram Scholars Sri K.R.Sethuraman and Sri Thada Subramanyam, with BhaaShaa Samman awards.
It is to be seen when they are going to bring out the Primers etc. for Sourashtra language.
It is to be noted that from 1920 onwards attempts were made to adopt Devanagari Script for Sourashtra language; but till today, it could not be succeeded.

The nomenclature of Sourashtra.
Sourashtra is the popular spelling used by Sourashtras of Tamil Nadu especially of Madurai. Example: Sourashtra Sabha, Sourashtra College etc.
As per linguists, the spelling is sauraaShTraa.
It can be written as Saurashtra also.
But of late a group of people would like to call themselves as Sourashtree.
A group of people has formed a Trust called Sourashtri Prachar Sabha Trust, Dindigul.
They want to use Parivarthit Devanagari Script evolved by Central Instituteof Indian Languages, Mysore.
But the Trust says that this Parivathit Devanagari Script is to be called as
Sourashtree lipi. It is not correct.
Sourashtra and Sourashtri refers to one and the same language.
Only those people who want to adopt Hindi script for Sourashtra Language wants to call their language as Sourashtri; others call their language as Sourashtra only.
The language is also called as Sourashtram besides Sourashtra Language.
It has got its own script and is in vogue from the year 1880.
Pandit Lakshmanacharya and Medhavi T.M.Rama Rai were instrumental for development of Sourashtra Language. Medhavi T.M.Rama Rai wrote a number of books.

Sourashtra Nandhi Nighantu, Chaturbasha vallari, Laghu Sankya Vallari, Sourashtra Vachana Ramayanam, Sourashtra Niti Sambu etc.

Vaastu Shaanti HOmam at UPAMANYU.
UPAMANYU, the abode of O.S.Subramanian was renovated and alterations effected to conform to Vaastu Shashtra.

Introduction to Sourashtra Class Room
The Sourashtra Class Room has been started.
In this Sourashtra language will be taught in its OWN SCRIPT.
This Script is in use for a very long time. The first printed book available in this Script is SouraShtranaadi which was printed in 1880.
Sourashtra Class 1 deals with Sourashtra vowels. How they are written is explained.
Sourashtra Class 2 deals with Sourashtra Consonants. How they are written is explained.
The Script is very easy to write. All letters are written from left to right only.
The vowel markers are placed just right to the consonant uniformly to all consonants without any confusion. [The only exception is ‘haddu yakaram’ which is written first and afterwards consonant and vowel marker ‘aa’ is written.
The sounds are pronounced as they are written. In other words, the written symbols tally with their respective sound. There is no necessity to observe the native speaker.
In English you have to observe the native speaker for correct pronunciation and emulate. Here in Sourashtram there is no such observation required.
Modern Sourashtra is the off shoot of Sauraseni Prakritam.
